Un-plug your safety worries!!!!

Temporary Power Solved Permanently!!

A short visit at the nearest construction site can speak thousand words for safety!! Imagine a workplace, a construction site where hundreds of people labour throughout the day, having no clue on the ill hazards or safety with regards to Electrical Power. It makes the project very challenging and at times difficult to ensure no accidents happen in such places.

Temporary electrical power distribution system in any construction site requires a special attention. A minor shock can be the shock of your life if it causes a serious burn or a fall.

Traditionally, the enclosures used for the system are sheet steel and some might agree for the use of a wooden board for the same. Just stop and have a look at some of these conventional installations, the picture will be clear. These are completely unsafe installations as the safety is compromised. Human lives are at stake. Every year Companies spend millions of rupees towards accident claims and insurance for casualties due to electrocutions.

If you are a general contractor, an operative builder, a sub – contractor, an event organiser or a project manager, working on a specific construction site, Safety and safe power are the important requirements for you. To enjoy a safe and reliable source for temporary power, you need to select a power distribution board which is completely insulated and shock proof and focus only on safety and which has a solid reputation in this field.

Temporary Power, at the constructions stage, is a must and a project cannot proceed ahead without the use of power as its required for every single job like welding, cutting, drilling, polishing, mixing etc. A fact remains on the safety aspect that drawing this power and making it available to people who have no real training is a daunting task. It would be a common scene to see unskilled people handling raw power from a typical panel using two wires and drawing it from live sockets. Sometimes these panels are just temporary like the power they feed making a life unsafe. Wooden Boards with unsafe sockets, Un-isolated Metallic panels are common as well.

There are a good growing number of Builders, Project Contractors, Electrical Managers like you, who always have noticed these things and hunting for a change. Hensel, the safety specialists when it comes to safe outdoor electrical systems, would be the right company to support on this initiative.

For more than 85 years, Hensel, a German pioneer in the field of Weatherproof & Insulated range of Electrical installation and Distribution systems, has been engaged in creating awareness on safe installation habits.

The company offers IP 65, fully insulated, Thermoplastic Polycarbonate temporary Distribution Boards and Assemblies for construction sites. The panels can be customised to the site requirements and adapt to your safety guidelines. They also fulfil the requirements for IEC 60439-4, the construction safety standard which offers optimum safety to you!

Hensel provides cable junction boxes made of stainless steel tested for intrinsic fire resistance up to 50mm²

Today, an emergency power supply is required in many areas in addition to the general power supply for safety reasons. This includes buildings with public traffic, such as tunnels, airports, train stations, sports facilities, hospitals, malls, etc. Particularly high demands are placed on the emergency power supply and the components used for it. In case of fire, they must ensure that functionality of the circuits is maintained over a defined period of time. Emergency lighting, lifts, smoke extractors, and alarms must remain operational for at least 30 or 90 minutes according to requirements so that people can leave the building and rescue forces can work.

Conformity with IEC 60670-22 must be verified for cable junction boxes. For example, this includes environmental requirements – moisture, protection from dust and environmental temperature, corrosion and mechanical stress – as well as electrical testing conditions.

In order to meet fire protection requirements, electrical installation systems must operate for 30 or 90. They must resist temperatures of up to 1000°C. Hensel has expanded its range of cable junction boxes tested for intrinsic fire resistance made from halogen-free duroplastic or steel sheet by adding a tunnel box made of stainless steel and a communication junction box.

Tunnel box: Intrinsic fire resistance E90 in XXL

Hensel has, once again, proven its expertise in electrical distribution systems with its tunnel box. Hensel is the only company to provide a solution for the connection of cables up to 50mm² with E90 intrinsic fire resistance. The so-called tunnel box was designed as a connection box for conductors from 16 to 50mm². Its field of application is where cables must be laid over long distances with intrinsic fire resistance, as is the case in tunnels, for example. By using cables up to 35mm², the tunnel box can also be used as a junction box. Connecting terminals consist of high temperature resistant ceramic in accordance with IEC 60 998-2-1. The stainless steel boxes are powder-coated in RAL 2003 Pastel Orange and meet degree of protection IP 65. Attachment occurs via external keyhole drillings which facilitate wall mounting.

Communication junction box with E30 intrinsic fire resistance

The E30 communication box from Hensel is also new. The empty box is intended for the installation of connecting device for telecommunications and equipped with cable entries on 4 sides. The mounting brackets for attaching the connecting device are already included in the scope of delivery. The connecting device for telecommunications are available as accessories for 10 or 20 pairs with both LSA connection technology and screw terminals. Cable entry is via elastic sealing membranes.

The robust fire protection box is impact resistant in accordance with IK 10 and meets degree of protection IP 55. Screw anchors for concrete, lime sandstone, bricks and clinker are included in the scope of delivery. The communication junction box is powder-coated in RAL 2003 Pastel Orange just like the tunnel box.

Another Latest from Hensel !!!

1500V DC Combiner Boxes now available for the Solar Industry!!

Hensel is proud to introduce the 1500VDC Combiner Boxes range after it successfully tested the samples in accordance with IEC 61439. The enclosures used for this critical 1500V DC system voltages have been tested for 5.8KV ( corresponding to the testing voltage as required in IEC 61439) and are certified Protection Class II.

Incidentally, Hensel was the first to create awareness on the requirements of the PV standard for protection class II as mandated in IEC 60364-7-712 for 1000 VDC and offered 4.65K V tested enclosures.

This is a very good news to the industry as it can now offer 1500V DC systems as the PV Modules, Inverters and now the combiner boxes are available to handle this critical system voltage.

Hensel can also offer string monitoring solutions with this range.

Safety in Solar : Its Hensel again !!

Connecting the Loose Ends!!

The name Hensel stands for its reputation and quality in the Solar Industry when it comes to reliable solutions on the DC side in any capacity solar plant. Hensel has always been ahead in introducing safe product solutions conforming to the International standards. With an experience of being a reliable supplier to over 350MW of Solar PV projects, we constantly strive to design and supply products that offer optimum safety to the solar power plants. In todays article, we introduce a product that intends to take care of the real issues at site with regards to Combiner Boxes, be it a simple Array Junction box or the smart String monitoring Box.

Foreword :

India so far has been able to add 2.08GW of Solar Power as per confirmed reports in October 2013. Although behind the schedule of Target 20GW by 2020, this has been a great success story for the Power Industry in India.

With such a high capacity of Power added and to be added more in the future, it is all the more important to understand some of the innovative product solutions that can improve the efficiency of the Solar Power plant.

Practical Experience :

One of the most common problems with regards to Solar PV plants are the fire incidents on the DC side. Most of these plants operate with a high system Voltage of 1000V DC, and with such a high DC voltage, a small ignition can prove to be very damaging.

The Cause :

One of the common culprit which influences sparks or these events of fire is the Loose connection, especially inside the PV Generator junction Boxes. You might have used the best of components like the PV modules, the Combiner Boxes and the Inverters, but if there is a fire due to loose connection, nothing can help.

PV Generator Junction Boxes, popular termed as Combiner Boxes are generally factory fitted with the right torque and many a times are Plug and Play devices. However, during installation, the right torque cannot be guaranteed as site conditions are different. As a result, over a period of time, loose connections cannot be avoided. A large solar farm has hundreds and thousands of such boxes and it becomes very difficult to check each and every box for such issues.

Loose connections subsequently cause heating and over heating cause fire events and result of this can be real damaging to the health of the Power plants. The project manager has really no clue as to what might have gone wrong and quality time gets spent on investigating the root cause. Many a times, fingers are pointed on a probable lightning surge or connecting reverse polarity of string cables, or wrong design or faulty components inside the Box. The remains of the burnt Box or the PV modules do not reveal the real story. An arc in the DC power plant is just like an arc of the Welding Electrode and hence loose connections inside combiner boxes should be taken seriously.

A look inside the Combiner Box that is commonly used with String Fuses, a Surge Voltage protection Device, and a DC Disconnect Switch, will explain the number of weak points that can be influenced by Loose Connections. The more number of String inputs, the more probability of having the loose connections inside. On top, components like Fuses are to be used on both Polarities and subsequently the output of these fuses are to be summed up again on a bus bar.

Predominantly, this Bus bar also has tap offs and outputs from the fuses are connected to them using a nut-bolt arrangement. The summed output is carried ahead to the next protective devices, like SPD and Isolators or Disconnect Switches.

In short, in the conventional Combiner Boxes, there exist a lot of weak links that can influence loose connection which can subsequently become a big headache in future. In view of the same, it is now important to check if there is any possibility to avoid so many weak links inside the combiner Boxes. Question is to find if these loose connections can be avoided.

The Solution :

Hensel now introduce to you Bus Mounted Devices inside our Combiner Boxes.

We offer Woehner Bus mounted Fuses that are rated for 1000VDC which will eliminate a lot of cabling internally. These fuse bases have inputs to connect the incoming string cables however the output is via the base which is internally connected to the bus bar through its conducting base. These fuses are directly mounted on the Bus Bars instead of a Din Rail and since there are no tap offs on the bus bar, there is no possibility of loose connections. The Bus mounted fuses have unique housing which ensures a natural gap between adjacent fuses and thereby provides a better heat ventilation / dissipation.

The summed output of the fuses can be taken directly from the bus bar via special terminals that are also direct Bus mounted. These terminals are clamped directly on the bus bar and the uniqueness is that one can shift the terminals at any place on the bus if there are any cable bending issues inside the box.

Hensel can also offer a complete Bus mounted system for devices other than the DC fuses. The advantage of is that there is minimum wiring inside the combiner boxes, a better heat dissipation and a reliable operation as chances of loose connections are almost none.

This unique smart combiner box of Hensel uses the unique Woehner, Germany make bus adapter system. All the components are directly mounted on the adapters that are snap fitted on the conducting two pole bus bar.

These solutions are now available for any combiner box on the DC side, be it a simple Array Junction Box or String Monitoring Boxes and for any number of inputs.

With such innovative products in the offering, the quality and safety of the power plant will remain intact thereby increasing the overall efficiency.
