The Junction Box is an
integral part of distribution & protection circuits in Power Electrical
System. The Junction Box provides circuit integrity in the system; be it for
Lighting Application Boxes or an Emergency Circuit or between sophisticated
equipments like a Reactor and its Control Room.
An Electrical Power
Junction Box contains a connection of cables & wires of same or different
cross section area and also different types i.e. solid or stranded. The terminals
therefore become one of important components in Electrical Power Distribution.
These connecting terminals
are used in different voltage & current carrying conditions. The dielectric
breakdown of the insulation of terminal is also influenced by relative
humidity, temperature and degree of pollution in the environment.
Considering
Clearance & Creepage distances – It is not only to address the spacing
issues
Electricity likes to travel along the
path of least resistance, looking for the best path for electricity usually
means measuring the distance from one conductor to another conductor. The
shortest distance may be through air (Air Gap) or along the surface of the
insulation (Creepage Distance).
Creepage Distance - Creepage is the shortest path
between two conductive parts (or between a conductive part and the bounding
surface of the equipment) measured along the surface of the insulation. A proper and adequate
Creepage distance protects against tracking of insulation. Tracking is a process
that produces a partially conducting path of localized deterioration on the
surface of an insulating material as a result of the electric discharges on or
close to an insulation surface. Tracking that damage the insulating material normally
occurs because of one or more of the following reasons:
1. Humidity in the atmosphere.
2. Presence of contamination.
3. Corrosive chemicals.
4. Altitude at which equipment is to be
operated.
Clearance Distance - Clearance is the shortest
distance between two conductive parts (or between a conductive part and the
bounding surface of the equipment) measured through air. Clearance distance
helps prevent dielectric breakdown between electrodes caused by the ionization
of air. The dielectric breakdown level is further influenced by relative
humidity, temperature, and degree of pollution in the environment.
Considering Clearance & Creepage distances can
avoid a problem later.
HENSEL offers a reliable
& safe technology of terminals for Electrical Power Branching &
Distribution through Junction Boxes. The terminals are designed for Clearance
& Creepage distance with protective shrouds and are vibration proof. Each
terminal pole are designed & defined to hold conductors of various cross
sections and also different kinds of conductors (solid or stranded).
Thanks to HENSEL design
which also has clear marking on the terminals viz. Rated Voltage, Rated Cross
Section Capacity, etc.
HENSEL has wide range of
terminals available for Power Connections.
The range – 1.5 sq. mm up
to 240 sq. mm
