If you believe in package offers, Hensel  can be a one-stop solution as we offer Type tested Thermoplastic panel systems upto 1000A.

Some of the accessories to make your life simpler during assemblies are;

  • Bus Bars and their supports

Hensel offers exclusive range of Copper Bus bars and  the range starts from 250 A upto 630A. The Bus bars are supplied with a standard length of 2400mm with standard sizes of 12x5mm, 12x10mm, 20x10m, 25x10mm and 30x10mm

Bus Bar supports as shown in the above picture are available to carry bus bars from one enclosure to the other retaining the required spacing and insulation. Extension of bus bars is easily possible as extension terminals for bus bars are available as shown in the picture below.

  • Terminals for direct bus bar connections

Terminals supplied by Hensel are special as there is no need to drill holes on the bus bars and as a result there are no weak points for a flash over to occur. These terminals are suitable for Solid, Stranded, flexible copper conductors with gas-tight crimped end sleeve and for laminated wiring strip. The terminals get snap fitted on the copper bus bar and are available in accordance with cable sizes, bus bar sizes and as per ratings. In case Aluminium conductors are used at the outgoing side from the bus bars, they need to be prepared to connection in accordance with the relevant technical recommendations. The range starts from 1.5sqmm up to 300sqmm Copper  / Aluminium conductors. Width of the bus bars range from 11mm up to 38mm.

  • Wiring Strips / Flexible wiring Band

For the ease of connection of the main breakers of the panel to the solid copper bus bar, wiring strips are handy. Conventionally Bus bars are bent and drilled for such type of connections however Hensel makes it simpler for a user by the introduction of these flexible strips. The number of strips  / sheets of copper used inside the wiring bad range from 3 to 11nos with a thickness of 0.8mm upto 1mm per strip. The ratings are available as per the solid bus bars used.

  • Wall Gasket

A very useful and convenient of retaining the high IP65 rating when using Modular combinable enclosure systems. This PUR gasket is extensively used in the Hensel Mi panel systems  for its assembly. The gaskets are used for combining boxes having a combining wall of 150mm or 300mm and is supplied along with 1 seal, 4 wedge links and 1 bracket. A picture illustrated as under can explain better;

  • Cable Entry Flanges

Even though the Mi system enclosure have a number of pre-moulded knock-outs for cable entry for any user, he might still have a customised requirement and hence we have a host of cable entry flanges that will suit every user. The flanges range from low sized knockouts of 12mm and go upto a very large size of 70mm diameter of the cables.

In case, the user wants to drill holes at site as per his convenience, the cable entry flange as illustrated in the below picture makes it convenient for him.

Countries like India, Malaysia or the Middle East predominantly use Aluminium armored cables and users in these countries always need to ensure the armor continuity for the cables. With constant dialogues with customers in these countries, Hensel has now been able to offer solution to these problems with simple cable entry flange plates which goes together with the plain flange. As the products are completely insulated, this metallic plate introduced by us ensure the continuity of the Armor or in other other words Earthing connections are fulfilled.

 When the requirement of the size of the cable increases, the cable flanges are to be designed to handle it. Hensel offers special flanges that can take a maximum of 300sqmm cables inside the panels as under;

These cable flanges are available also with an extra accessory called the cable strain relief and is generally required to ensure there are no stresses on the panel.

The cable strain relief hold the incoming  / outgoing cables after they are inserted into the panel system via the cable entry flanges. Any strain or pull from the field is eliminated due to this special accessory.

There are many more such useful and innovative accessories that can be used inside the Hensel Panel systems. If you are a panel builder, an Industrial maintenance person, a consultant, you know the issues with the conventional panels being used. The Electrotipp : Cover story

Long-term Waterproof Connectons:
DK Cable Junction Boxes „Waterproof“ for Encapsulating
Have you grabbed the copy of the new  Electrotipp???  (Electrotipp is the official technical Newsletter from Hensel)

Relax, we help you with the latest technical innovation from the House of Hensel;

Time and time again, electricians come across installation environments whereby the ingress of water into an enclosure must be safely excluded. Even enclosures which have a high degree of protection cannot guarantee this.

In all high-sealed housings, condensation can form, which can, depending on the amount, result in harmful damage to the electrical device.

In application areas with e.g. risks of flooding, where any ventilation measures to prevent condensation should be avoided, the high degree of protection is not a reliable solution.

Which applications require waterproof cable connections?
  • Pump shafts / stations Ground-level installation ducts or shafts in outdoor areas
  • Ground-level unprotected outdoor installation
  • Unprotected outdoor installations which are close to the ground
  • Flood areas close to rivers or marinas.
  • In extreme environments with constant high humidity
Why is the IP degree of protection alone not sufficient?Even housings with high degree of protection can not safely exclude the ingressof water and dust. All IP ratings allow for example ingress of water into a housing in a non-harmful quantity Under extreme environmental conditions, for example, the accumulation of condensation may result in damage to the electrical installation or devices or cause these to malfunction. Ventilation measures will often suffice to prevent harmful condensation from forming. In many cases, however, ventilation is not possible, e.g. because the cable junction boxes are installed close to rivers and water could enter through the vent holes.

ConclusionUnder extreme conditions even an IP68 cable junction box cannot prevent harmful accumulation of water inside by condensation. Absolute water tightness is only guaranteed if the boxes are encapsulated. In Germany, a standard is developed, which is described in the DIN VDE V 0606-22-100 standard.

Permanent Waterproof Cable Connections with Cable Junction Boxes from Hensel:

Hensel now offers complete product solutions consisting of cable junction boxes, suitable sealing compound and plugs that meet the requirements of extreme environments, thus ensuring the operation of the electric circuits.

The waterproof cable connection via encapsulating with a sealing compound
  1. Open protective aluminum foil.Do not damage internal bag with sealing compound.
  2. Remove divider between the two components of the sealing compound.
  3. Mix well for three minutes the two components of the sealing compound.
  4. Cut open sealing compound bag.
  5. Use funnel for feeding sealing compound. The compound takes 45 minutes to process.
  6. Insert plug, after the case has been completely sealed.

Benefits for electricians :

  • Sealing cable junction boxes with a fast setting, permanently elastic sealing compound the ingress of water and forming of condensation is completely excluded.
  • The sealing compound features outstanding insulation properties. As the compound is transparent, it is possible for visual inspections of the installation to be carried out at any time.
  • The durable elastic material is self sealing, therefore it is also easy for the electrical connections to be tested after they have been sealed.
  • The sealing compound can be easily removed for repairs, subsequent installations or changes to installations.
  • Additionally the sealed cable junction boxes also offer reliable protection against shock and vibration.
  • The sealing compound does not, however, provide strain relief as it only adheres to material and does not stick together. Suitable cable entries must also be used here, e.g. Hensel ASM.

For repairs, subsequent installations or changes to installations the sealing compound can be easily removed:- Take off lid and
- remove sealing compound

The EMC Connection!!!

EMC cable glands.
AGRO cable glands for interference-free cable installations.

EMC. : A topic with serious consequences.

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is something that everyone in our modern world is confronted with. For instance, if a bothersome tone in the radio alerts you that your mobile phone is ringing, this is a typical case of an electromagnetic interaction between two pieces of equipment. In this context, disturbing noises are only the most harmless consequences of such unwanted interactions. When your expensive high-tech car won’t move because of electromagnetic incompatibilities in the on-board computer, things become much more upsetting and expensive. This topic takes on a whole new meaning when the functions of entire industrial plants or rail vehicles are disrupted or even brought to a standstill because of EMC problems. The financial damages due to a manufacturing outage can quickly reach enormous amounts in the 5- to 7-digit Euro range – not to speak of possible loss of data or damage to the company’s image arising from delayed deliveries.

As our everyday lives and businesses tend to increasingly rely on technology, the issue of EMC continually gains added importance. More and more electronic devices are being used in the home, industrial plants
are becoming more complex, and it’s hard to imagine life without new wireless technologies such as GPS, Bluetooth or WLANs. Just as the electronics industry is growing, so too is the level of electromagnetic interference because basically every piece of electrical equipment is susceptible to EMC or itself even creates such interference. Achieving 100 percent electromagnetic compatibility is nothing more than wishful thinking. In fact, it has become mandatory to address EMC aspects early in the planning and development phases of machines, systems and equipment and in doing so include all relevant components. In this way, expensive rework can be avoided. Specifically, statistics indicate that almost 40 percent of all
electronic failures can be traced back to insufficient EMC measures.

Standards and regulations.
EMC directives.

What, exactly, is EMC? Every electrical device generates an electromagnetic field around itself, and this field in turn can induce currents and voltages in other electrical devices. Depending on the intensity of the mutual coupling, this effect can lead to malfunctions, reduced functionality or even total failure of the equipment.

In European Standard EN 61000, the term EMC is defined as follows:
Electromagnetic compatibility is the ability of a piece of electrical equipment to function satisfactorily in an electromagnetic environment without influencing this same environment, in which other equipment is located,
more than is permitted. The active and passive aspects of this definition can be more clearly illustrated with the example of a pacemaker. The operation of such a pacemaker should not in the least be compromised by
environmental influences to ensure that the patient’s life is not put in danger. On the other hand, the patient himself must not be harmed by the operation of the device itself.

Basically, a distinction is drawn between electromagnetic influences in the low-frequency and high-frequency regions. In the lowfrequency region, interference arises due to the various forms of coupling (galvanic, inductive, capacitive) between two electrical circuits. In the high frequency region starting at 10 kHz and above, in contrast, there are additional field-related coupling effects that have an effect on susceptible equipment, which can act as a sink for the interference – in other words, on receivers, electrotechnical equipment or electrical systems. Furthermore, there is a distinction between natural sources of interference such as lightning and artificial causes such as TV and radio transmitters, frequency converters and switching operations.

When it comes to EMC, not only technical issues are of interest but also legal aspects. In general, electrical products, machines and systems are subject to various directives, laws, ordinances and regulations. The legal provisions applicable to EMC at the European level are intended to guarantee not only free movement of goods within the domestic markets but also to ensure the protection of health and safety for people as well as to protect the environment, radio operations and consumers. Therefore, within the EU, only those products can be brought to market which meet the protection regulations established in the EMC Directive (2004/108/EC). Accordingly, manufactures must design their products such that no unacceptable electromagnetic interference arises between two devices or systems, and this is to be verified with corresponding test procedures and the confirmation made visible with a CE marking.

The most important things for interference-free operation: Shielding and contact.

In the industrial sector, EMC plays a particularly key role because complex machines and systems are extremely susceptible to electromagnetic interference. Such undesired EMC effects, however, can be counteracted with the effective shielding of all components. On the one hand, good shielding reduces the amount of interference emitted by an electrical apparatus while at the same time reducing its susceptibility to impaired performance due to electromagnetic effects.

Not only cables themselves but also all other components that are part of
the installation must provide shielding characteristics. As passive components, cable glands must ensure that the quality of the shielding at sensitive interconnection points remains intact and that there are no losses due
to the shielding. For this reason, it’s necessary to not only use a maximally shielded cable but also add EMC-compliant cable glands. Although there is no separate EMC standard for these components, they play a large contribution towards making it possible to meet the EMC characteristics prescribed by manufacturers.
The effect of cable shielding depends on the shielding material, the type of shielding and the connection to electrical ground. In order to achieve optimal effectiveness, the shielding must be connected on both
sides of ground through a connection with both low resistivity and low inductance. In other words, it must be led to the chassis wall through the shortest possible route and with a large contact surface. When subject to
vibrations, a good contact must not result in an increased transfer resistance. In practice, these requirements can only be fulfilled if the connection can be installed simply and without special tools.
With four different EMC-compatible cable glands, AGRO offers its customers the appropriate product and the ideal types of contact for each type of application. With the new Progress EMC easyCONNECT Brass cable gland , contact is established through an innovative spring clip.

Furthermore, AGRO offers the following proven series of products:
• Progress EMC Rapid Brass
• Progress EMC Brass
• Progress Series 85 Brass
All these product lines stand out due to their easy assembly. Furthermore, the renowned Swiss EMC laboratory MONTENA EMC SA has certified AGRO cable glands for lowest transfer impedance and high current carrying capacity. Both are established criteria for the quality of shielding. In order to achieve a top grade, AGRO involves EMC specialists from the very beginning of new-product development.

A Golden Page from our Distributors Diary!!

Closely Bonded Family : A secret Recipe to Success!!

It is not a big secret anymore that the secret of success of Hensel in India is not only the innovative quality products but the dedicated field force that keeps the brand grow leaps and bounds. Brand Hensel is represented in India by more than 180 distributors over and above the strong sales force of the company.

Most of our distributors in India are associated with Hensel for more than a decade and the decade list keeps growing with every passing year. Hensel is extremely proud of this distributor force which has the best techno - commercial brains from the country and to whom every competitor of Hensel aspires to have. The association of Hensel within the organisation and its distributor network is like a family and this family learns a lot from each other.

Today, we would like to share an experience of one of our family member, our distributor, from one of the recently conducted international exhibition in India. Location and names are irrelevant as we feel we are a family and everyone associated with us think alike.

We present to you the first hand report from our distributor in his own words; ( P.S : We have deleted the names of our competitor which happens to be also a very good company from Europe)

" It was just to share an experience . I had been to  Competitor stall in the xxxx Exhibition and met one gentleman Mr. Jack ( Name changed) there who is Senior Technical Sales Engineer.

I gave my card to him and on seeing Hensel he asked me if I would be willing to be their distributors as well. I flatly refused . Then he told me how can you flatly refuse without hearing my terms and conditions. In this exhibition, you are the fourth distributor of Hensel who has refused without any interaction. So I would like to know how does Hensel treat you or how Hensel develops relationship so that you can refuse point blank. Does Hensel offer higher discounts or anything else. I told him Hensel treats us like family members .

This was his fourth job in an enclosure company so I told him that if you would have been in Hensel you would not have to change so many jobs.

Well that was all. "

Terminal Technology in ENYCASE DK Junction Boxes

The Junction Box is an integral part of distribution & protection circuits in Power Electrical System. The Junction Box provides circuit integrity in the system; be it for Lighting Application Boxes or an Emergency Circuit or between sophisticated equipments like a Reactor and its Control Room.

An Electrical Power Junction Box contains a connection of cables & wires of same or different cross section area and also different types i.e. solid or stranded. The terminals therefore become one of important components in Electrical Power Distribution.

These connecting terminals are used in different voltage & current carrying conditions. The dielectric breakdown of the insulation of terminal is also influenced by relative humidity, temperature and degree of pollution in the environment.

Considering Clearance & Creepage distances – It is not only to address the spacing issues

Electricity likes to travel along the path of least resistance, looking for the best path for electricity usually means measuring the distance from one conductor to another conductor. The shortest distance may be through air (Air Gap) or along the surface of the insulation (Creepage Distance).

Creepage Distance - Creepage is the shortest path between two conductive parts (or between a conductive part and the bounding surface of the equipment) measured along the surface of the insulation.  A proper and adequate Creepage distance protects against tracking of insulation. Tracking is a process that produces a partially conducting path of localized deterioration on the surface of an insulating material as a result of the electric discharges on or close to an insulation surface. Tracking that damage the insulating material normally occurs because of one or more of the following reasons:

1.    Humidity in the atmosphere.

2.    Presence of contamination.

3.    Corrosive chemicals.

4.    Altitude at which equipment is to be operated.

Clearance Distance - Clearance is the shortest distance between two conductive parts (or between a conductive part and the bounding surface of the equipment) measured through air. Clearance distance helps prevent dielectric breakdown between electrodes caused by the ionization of air. The dielectric breakdown level is further influenced by relative humidity, temperature, and degree of pollution in the environment.

Considering Clearance & Creepage distances can avoid a problem later.

HENSEL offers a reliable & safe technology of terminals for Electrical Power Branching & Distribution through Junction Boxes. The terminals are designed for Clearance & Creepage distance with protective shrouds and are vibration proof. Each terminal pole are designed & defined to hold conductors of various cross sections and also different kinds of conductors (solid or stranded).

Thanks to HENSEL design which also has clear marking on the terminals viz. Rated Voltage, Rated Cross Section Capacity, etc.

HENSEL has wide range of terminals available for Power Connections.

The range – 1.5 sq. mm up to 240 sq. mm
